Freedom Designs, Inc. has designed and manufactured
specialized wheelchair frames, custom seating and positioning systems,
hardware and accessories for over 25 years.
Its founder, Ginny
Maloco, acquired a small company in Simi Valley, California, involved
in the manufacturing of very basic cushions and seating/positioning
products. Recognizing that there was a strong need in the rehabilitation
market for specialized pediatric positioning products and wheelchairs,
Freedom Designs began developing product offerings to meet those
needs. New product development became a primary focus. In addition,
many new and innovative customization options were made available
which included a myriad of colors, upholsteries, and monogramming,
allowing each product to be truly individualized for the user.
Freedom Designs, Inc. is proud of its many on-going
industry contributions over the years. These include active involvement
with seating/positioning
and wheelchair code development for funding agencies, offering
the first technical seminars for therapist/dealer training, design
and manufacture of the first folding Tilt-In-Space wheelchair,
as well as assuming a leadership role in wheelchair and transport
crash testing of chairs.
In 2004, Freedom Designs was acquired
by Invacare Corporation, a leader in the DME/rehab industry,
as part
of the Helixx Group. The Helixx Group consists of Altimate
Medical, PinDot, Motion Concepts and Freedom Designs,
all premium
suppliers of comprehensive, specialized, mobility improvement
solutions for the Rehab market. The partnership of these five
organizations offers customers comprehensive solutions under
one group while
allowing for stronger, more diverse sales coverage and customer
support.
Products
Freedom Designs Inc. currently produces the following wheelchairs:
Gizmo Tilt In Space, SP3 and SP3 Mini Series, Freedom 2 and Freedom
2 Kids, TriPod, TriPod LT as well as a full line of custom
seating and positioning products, hardware, and accessories items.
The uniqueness and functionality of company products is the result
of input by external industry professionals, as well as by an experienced
internal engineering and manufacturing team. With an in-house machine
shop, Freedom Designs is able to design functional, durable, and
cost-effective products – all here in the United States of
America. Sophisticated computer design capability allows for the
development of high quality products. These elements all allow
Freedom Designs
to realize manufacturing economies that are then passed along to
the customer.
